Welcome to the Brannon Braga era of Star Trek! We begin with “Night”, an interesting environmental allegory. Then we go into “Drone”, a retread of “I, Borg” that tries its best to differentiate itself but only sort of succeeds.
Trekabout Episode 293: Star Trek: Voyager, Night/Drone

-I feel like Braga took over with the fans’ perspective that the great premise of the show was essentially dropped in favor of TNG-lite. Night attempts to acknowledge the shows failings, but still nothing is really done with the premise in a meaningful way from this point on.
I feel like the show should have perfected slipstream at this point, gotten to Earth, then explored the Delta quadrant in more of a fun TNG way instead of the darker, desperate-for-survival way the show premise requires.

-To clarify, I mean they should have chosen one or the other. Either make the show they made and drop the premise formally, or go dark with it. Keeping the premise and keeping the happy tone never really worked for me.
