-Do you guys watch the promos for the next episode before you record or after you record, or not at all? I think that particularly for this episode the promo added some context to some of the discussions you had this episode.
It’s been brought up as a side point in all the episodes up until now, but since it’s a secondary element of the plot point regarding Ensign Tardigrade this episode, I have to say that Saru’s ability to “sense the coming of death” is ridiculous in a way that Betazoids being able to read thoughts across kilometers and kilometers of space didn’t even reach. I get if it’s an apprehensive or early-warning impulse a la deer, but it doesn’t seem to make sense at all in this episode in particular. Is it instinctual? Is it ok that Saru doesn’t even know he’s in the same room as the future Ensign? Hmm…
Otherwise, pretty happy with this episode. The ripped up body of Landry was interesting and slightly out of place to see in a Trek show; Culber fixing Stamets’ broken nose was also jarring but a little more in keeping with how Trek tends to depict gore. I guess that’s to be expected in the case in this media environment where the show can play a little looser with blood and gore, but hey, wasn’t Kelvin Trek supposed to be a bright and optimistic alternative to all the darkness of film and television nowadays? Isn’t that what all the lens flare is for?

-I watch the Next Time On…, I don’t think Eric does. But you’re right, in my case some of my speculation has come from that–having an idea what might happen next week suggest some character development. That all said, I didnt really remember any of the preview for Episode 4, and so the whole thing was a nice surprise for me!
