Dax’s old friend Kor visits Deep Space Nine for the final time in “Once More Unto the Breach”, and Worf and Martok disagree over what to do about it. Then, Sisko and crew get stuck in “The Siege of AR-558”.
Trekabout Episode 227: Once More Unto the Breach/The Siege of AR-558

-Hearing a war-centric week of episodes makes me wonder when we can hear your guys’ views on Rogue One for Trekabout Presents. I suspect you’ll give it lower marks than these eps.
In any event, it is surprising that DS9 remains so good in its seventh season. Is there a better seventh season in television? Perhaps, but I can’t really think of one, and while that distinction may not be worth much, it’s pretty rare. Mostly it’s a time when half of the cast is gone and the writers are just fried, nearly visibly distracted as they work more on writing their CVs than new episodes. Not here. Sure, they’re reusing bits of plot and theme that we’ve seen before, but the character work is still so good, which I find to be one of the first things that goes. I forgive a little repetition of plot and theme more than losing the characters. A major reason why the seventh/last season of The West Wing is so awful is because the people who came in midway didn’t understand the characters at all and constantly had them doing hilariously inappropriate things because the plot demanded it.

-I should specify *better dramatic series season seven*. Seinfeld’s seventh season is pretty good.

-Currently we have no plans to revive Trekabout Presents–I did see Rogue One and pretty much hated it (I almost walked out), so I doubt we’ll do a podcast on it.
Totally agree that it’s surprising that season seven of DS9 is as good as it is–I think it’s as good as seasons five or six. I had remembered it being sort of weak, but it had been a couple of years since I watched it.

-I think Season 7 is better on re-watch. Although, there are still too many Ezri episodes. If you can get around to accepting the Dukat plotline then S7 goes pretty well. This is easier to do on re-watch.

-I hated the whole Bajoran Magic story the first time but I don’t mind it as much now.
Eric Brasure
-I actually feel similar!

-I’m liking Ezri this time around, she’s not the best character but she also can’t really be compared fairly to the rest of the crew since we haven’t gotten to know her over 6 previous seasons.

-I’m watching this for the first time. Season 7 seems pretty weak compared to 5 & 6 thus far. Ezri seems like a waste of the last 20+ episodes. It might have been better to have no Dax at all.
My father is a disabled Vietnam veteran, and “AR-558” and “it’s Only a Paper Moon” seem VERY superficial to me. Having a good idea and executing it properly are just two different things….
