In “Rivals”, we meet another El-Aurian, and he’s a conman! In “The Alternate”, we meet Dr. Mora, who tries to con Odo into leaving Deep Space Nine. We don’t have to con you into listening to this episodes of Trekabout, though!

-You guys forgot to mention the scene in "Rivals" where Bashir can’t find a ketchup bottle with any ketchup left in it, which is the greatest scene in television history.
Eric Brasure
-I mean, it’s definitely up there.

-"The Alternate" is a strange episode. You guys are right that the Monster of the Week element just feels strange and out of place. And very poorly executed. I do love the dynamic between Odo and Dr Mora. It was great that the writing and acting combined to bring so much complexity to the relationship even though this was the first we have seen of Mora.
Looking at the season episode list, I think "Rivals" might be the low point. The Bashir/O’Brien scenes are the only watchable part of the episode. But next week’s episodes will give us better Bashir/O’Brien stuff to talk about.
I think the rest of the episodes this season are all more interesting than "Rivals". Better character writing and more coherent plots.
Eric Brasure
-Agreed that "Rivals" is the low point of the season. It’s just so boring and bland. DS9, even at it’s worst, isn’t usually actively unwatchable.
